Our handbell ministry includes seven ensembles for all ages and experience levels of players. Our instruments include two 5-octave sets of Malmark handbells, a 5-octave set of hand chimes, and a selection of Malmark aluminum bass bells. Our first 5-octave set of handbells was purchased by congregation members in the mid-1990’s. A gift in memory of Chancel Choir member, Sandra Shirley Eubanks, by her family of a new 5-octave set of Malmark handbells in 2016 has been a key factor in the recent exponential growth of our handbell program. The Eubanks family made an additional gift of a 3-octave set of Schulmerich Silver Melody Bells in 2018.
For more information on our handbell ministry, please contact Brian Childers – bchilders@mpumc.org.
Established in memory of the first full-time music director at Myers Park United Methodist Church, the Walter Herbert Ball Endowment Fund for Music provides funding for music programs of the church for which he labored so long and so faithfully. The Fund has been used to underwrite concerts and educational workshops with international clinicians and artists for our choirs and community. It has also provided funding for the commission of new sacred music, supported portions of the church’s Music at Myers Park Series, and subsidized the Chancel Choir’s tours to England, Austria, the Czech Republic, and New York City. All contributions remain as principal, with only the interest from contributions being spent.
