What if, like Jesus, we need to be vulnerable and present in the uncomfortable parts of our neighbors’ lives if we are to truly be transformed by them, and then together transform the world? As Missions begins their 2019 focus on why our Presence Matters, author of A Riff of Love: Notes on Community and Belonging and co-founder of QC F amily Tree, and jazz saxophonist Greg Jarrell will be with us to share his unlikely story of building relationships with his neighbors. Establishing Enderly Park in West Charlotte as his home following graduation from seminary, Jarrell recollects “We thought that living deeply into the journey of faith, for us, required us to immerse our whole lives into a place where we would be in close proximity to people that Howard Thurman called ‘the disinherited.'” Accompanied by Dawn Anthony, vocalist, Jarrell will tell his story using Jazz as a metaphor to the relationships he’s built with his neighbors.
